I used Inman's Study Guide and a little bit of dietitianexam.com. The practice tests for both of these study tools were extremely helpful! If you are limited in time to study OR have a short attention span ;) just use the practice exams to study. Since the exam is somewhat random (there is a LOT to know about dietetics), soaking in a wide variety of facts (like those found in practice questions) will give you a broader knowledge on the material. I would recommend both these products!
ReplyDeleteHi, thought I'd chime in, too! I used Inman's Review, which was extremely helpful. I found having audio CDs with the reading material kept me engaged, while also providing additional information to supplement the written material. By following along using the CDs, it also gives you a better idea of how to manage your time, setting aside enough time to study by your test date. Inman's covers all of the test specifications (Foodservice Systems, Management, etc.), too, so it familiarizes you with everything you should expect to see on the exam. I also used Breeding & Associates for practice questions, which was EXTREMELY helpful because it gave me a better idea of the format of the exam and how to apply my knowledge for situational questions (You can study information all you want, but if you don't know how to apply it then it's essentially useless.). I'd say about 75% of the questions I encountered on the exam were situational and a little tricky, so be sure you feel comfortable using your critical thinking skills! I also signed up to do "RD Question of the Day" from TestPrepReview.com @ http://www.testprepreview.com/dietitian_practice.htm. By registering, you receive a sample question via email everyday with elaborate explanations to the answers. The best part of this is that it's completely free!
ReplyDeleteI want to also add that exam materials can be expensive, but I actually bought the 2008 Inman Review from someone who advertised it on the AllAccessInternships Facebook group (Thanks, Katie and Jenny!) for much less than purchasing the brand new 2009 version. You can also check Ebay or Amazon.com for used materials, or ask around to see about buying materials from someone you know of who has already taken the exam. And as I mentioned before with TestPrepReview.com, by just searching online, you can find plenty of free resources. Just keep in mind study materials are an investment because by being prepared and passing the exam, you are saving yourself time and money in the long run!
Hi Jesse,
ReplyDeleteI Monica Adhikari is in process of taking my RD exams. I am trained Dietitian from London Uk. I was wondering do you know of anyone or could you lend me the Inman Review Material. I checked on the their website and its a bt expensive for me.
thanks
Monica
I don't know of anyone selling used materials at the moment, but there is a 2006 edition for sale on Ebay!
ReplyDeleteI finally passed! I think the study aide that put me over the top this time was rdstudy.com. The way that they helped me the most was clarifying the differences in some of the study material information, as well as just the number of different questions that they had. I really used their RD! I sent many questions, and called them once. Very helpful, quick to respond!! One time, I had a question about HACCP, since while studying I came across two references that had step 6 and 7 listed differently!!!! Stressful! Turns out they had contacted the publisher of one of the books already to verify why they were different!! Problem solved, Whew!! Get in early though, their prices are still inexpensive, but are creeping up. I think they hearing that they could charge more for what they do. Anyway, glad this is finally over. I also need to mention Hess and Hunt. Great book! Now is there anyone out there that can help me find a job?
ReplyDeleteI am not taking the RD exam until late summer but I wanted to start reviewing all the material I've learned. Which materials/sites do a better job outlining what we've learned? I am less interested in the exam style and questions at this point.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I just recently passed the RD exam and the main source I used was RDstudy.com (to view my review visit my blog @ http://duawrites.com/rdstudy-com-review/). I also used the Hess & Hunt review binder from 2006 but honestly only read like a fourth of it. My last source was the 6th edition of Foodservice Organizations - A managerial and systems approach which is an old book I had.
ReplyDeleteI recently passed RD exam. I used Inman as the base and dietitian exam as to get feel of how exam would be. I also used Hess and Hunt when I had some doubt. Last 10 days I did some RDstudy quizzes.
