Featured Intern: Back to the DI

By Amanda Sauceda

After a month of vacation with no internship I am coming back better than ever.  My vacation was amazing for the simple fact that I’ve never had a month off with no homework or job to go to everyday.  I was able to get a lot of things done that I had been putting off for a while.  The main thing I was able to do was take the time to organize the millions of papers I had accumulated so far from my internship.  I don’t want to throw away all the handouts, brochures, etc because they could serve as good references later on.  When else will I have the chance to be exposed to so many different areas of nutrition in such a short amount of time?

I was also able to be a part of the first RD2Be twitter chat.  I’ve been virtually introduced to some great RD’s to be across the country.  The twitter party takes place the first Monday of each month at 9 pm EST, just follow the hash tag #RD2Be.  This twitter party is a great chance to discuss any subject from developing a portfolio to tips on prepping for the internship.  The first one was a great success and the more the merrier.

Lastly I was able to reflect on some questions I’ve had in the back of my mind.  The biggest decision I made was to continue working on my Master’s degree after I finish up my internship.  I’ve been debating whether or not to get my degree from a different school or even if I wanted to continue on.  So I will be working on my MS degree in Nutritional Science at CSULB.  I will be taking a semester off from school, which will be kind of odd since I’ve always been in school, but I’m taking the time to develop my RD skills.

Anyone else make some big decisions over their winter break?  I hope everyone’s applications are coming along great!
