This has had to be one of the quickest weeks ever. I felt like one minute I was working on my business plan and the next I was getting ready to go to sessions at the California Dietetic Association’s (CDA) meeting. The start of this week was working in my business rotation and it’s off to a great start. The first day I was able to see a side a different side of dietetics. The RD I am working with is in private practice but also is an exercise physiologist. Combining those two titles she works with a wellness program for firefighters. This program consists of fitness testing as well as nutrition counseling. I was able to observe the fitness testing which is something I had never seen before. But my major project for this rotation is actually getting all those ideas I have running through my head and written into my business plan. I’ll continue to work on that the rest of the week along with a few other assignments then this rotation is complete.
The rest of my week was spent at CDA. I had never been to a state meeting before so it was pretty awesome to be around a lot of great dietitians. The first day I was volunteering and got to help out at the registration desk. Working at the check-in desk I got to meet a lot of people as well as other students/interns who were also helping out that day. The second day I got to wander around the product marketplace and see all the different things. Its kind of corny but one of the niftiest things I saw was a little plastic holder in the shape of the pear. They were giving them out so you can place your pear inside so you don’t have to worry about it getting bruised! After the product marketplace I visited the poster sessions and spoke with the presenters. Overall I think my favorite item of the day was listening to session about using games with nutrition education. Loved the presenter and the topic was so new and interesting! On top of it all I got to spend time with my fabulous intern class and make a few more memories before the internship is over.
