Featured Intern: Done and Done!

By Amanda Sauceda

I am officially done with my dietetic internship! Time flew by these past nine months
and I am happy to report that I am now a test away from becoming a registered dietitian.
It feels so good to be starting the next chapter of my life. Now that I am done I have to
start looking for jobs and study, study for the exam!

This internship was the best learning experience I have ever had and I have come
away from this internship a stronger person. Being an intern is more than just putting
into practice medical nutrition therapy, it is also about becoming a professional. The
internship places you into a variety of situations and you find out about strengths (and
areas to improve upon) that you never thought you had. I have had some interesting
experiences throughout this year that have all been good teaching moments for me. I
never gave much thought about public speaking or how difficult it can be to put together
a presentation last minute, but I loved it. I have always had my challenges with writing
so having a time limit to write an article and successfully doing so was a personal
accomplishment. Even learning that I love pediatric nutrition was a surprise to me and
I now plan to pursue being a pediatric RD. So come into the internship with an open
mind ready and willing to learn. It isn’t always easy but this is your time to shine and put
your skills to the test.

I hope you all enjoyed reading my posts for the past year. It has been great to share my
experiences with you all. I wish all my fellow RDs to be good luck. Enjoy the summer!

  1. Hi Amanda,
Congratulations! I'm about to finish up my internship (next Thursday, actually) and I LOVE pediatric nutrition as well. I know a lot of preceptors have told me that it's super hard to get into pediatric nutrition. Do you have a game plan, so to speak, as to how you're going to make your way into that area? I personally have tried to network with a lot of peds & neonatal dietitians and have attempted to get as much experience as possible during my internship. I was just curious as to what other newly graduated interns interested in peds nutrition were doing!
    Thanks!
