The first week of exams has flown by. It really helps to look through the syllabus and mark down all the important days for the week and month. Like most dietetic students, I wish I had been able to go to San Diego for the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo (FNCE). I was able to attend last year’s expo that was in Boston, and I would recommend that all dietetic students to participate in the Expo at least once in their undergraduate career. When I went last year, I was able to see how competitive the dietetic internship process really is.
One of my favorite classes this semester is Medical Nutrition Therapy and last week we finally finished our first case study. I learned how to apply the Nutrition Care Process and how to use the evidence analysis library. One thing that I found difficult was the EAL library because if you close a window it would be hard to find that page again. I ended up saving every page that I opened so that it would be easier to find what I needed. Now that we are done with the first case study I am very excited to start a new one next week and hopefully get better with applying the nutrition care process as the semester goes on.
Also FNCE is a great way to meet new people and network. If you missed out on this year’s FNCE you can always go to the one in Philadelphia next year. It would be a good idea to organize a group trip with all the dietetic students in your school’s nutrition department and invite professors to go with you. Plan ahead so you have a chance to be apart of next year’s FNCE!
