Daily Plate: NYC Restaurant Week

A lot of New Yorkers eat out for almost every meal. Personally, I can’t imagine doing that, but I love going out for a nice dinner now and then, even if it only ends up being about once a week. And drinks? Forget it. I have to pencil that stuff in weeks in advance, it feels like. This weekend, though, I got to go out a few times. It was so nice.

Saturday was a friend’s birthday, so we met up at Sanctuary T in Soho for some tea-infused beverages and foods. I ordered a cava-and-elderflower cocktail that had chamomile in it!

On Sunday afternoon, my mom and I headed to Mercer Kitchen to take advantage of their Restaurant Week menu. We both had the steamed shrimp salad with avocado, in champagne dressing, and then the slow-cooked salmon with brussel sprouts and truffled mashed potatoes. We each got a different dessert and split them. There was also some pink champagne involved on my end of the table. That’s one thing you should know about me: I don’t drink that often, but when I do, you can bet it’s either wine or champagne…I find when I drink less frequently, I feel less guilty about getting something nice when I do.

After walking around Soho, we made our way to Whole Foods, where we stocked up on things like almond milk, flaxmeal, and other curiosities before meeting up with a friend of mine in Chelsea for tea and French macaroons. If you’ve never tried one of these amazing little cookies, do yourself a favor and get thee to Madleine on 23rd Street!
