Mavis's First Week of School - Discovering Ways to Be Active on Campus

This is the first week that I have spent in Syracuse in nine months.  I studied abroad in Hong Kong last semester. As a senior in college, I am realizing that there are a lot more responsibilities than there were in the previous semesters. For the past three years, people kept telling me that I did not have to worry so much until I become a senior.  Well, that year has finally come!

Entering senior seminar, many of my classmates had similar concerns about dietetic internships. Many did not know where to begin their research on applying to different programs. As a campus representative for AAI, I shared about all the resources that AAI provides. Many came back to me and told me how useful the website was in terms of navigating through the internships that were listed for each state.

This week I also signed up with my nutrition volunteer coordinator to help with Books and Cooks. It is a program where nutrition majors teach children about different cultures’ cuisines and at the end of the session we actually make some of the recipes that we described to them. This is a great way to interact with the Syracuse community, and at the same time, teach children about different food cultures. In addition, I will be a teaching assistant for one of the courses in the hospitality management department in Syracuse University. I am trying to make the best out of my senior year since it is my last year in college!
