I mentioned in the last post that I studied abroad in Hong Kong last semester. Even though the classes that I took while I was abroad had nothing to do with my major, I thought it was the most rewarding experience I had my entire life. After studying abroad I believe that everyone should take the opportunity while they are in college to go to another country and study for a semester. I went back to the United States much more focused and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life post-graduation. Going abroad puts you in situations that you have never experienced before.
The second week of classes just ended and the content of the classes began to speed up. I am taking eight classes this semester and surprisingly it has not been that hard trying to keep up with everything. I find that reviewing class notes and lectures and also reading the textbooks are two very helpful studying techniques. My favorite class right now is probably Nutrition Food and Culture because we get to go on field trips and learn more about different food cultures. This week we went to an organic farm located in central New York and what my professor wanted us to learn was where our food sources come from and gain firsthand experience of how produce is grown. Also in my senior seminar class we are starting to build our portfolio and generate our resumes and cover letters. One piece of advice that I have for all undergraduates is to keep all your notes and work throughout college. Some of the saved items can actually be used for your portfolio. I thought far in advance enough to save some of my papers, and now I just have to take everything and put it nicely into a binder. I am also beginning to look in greater depth of the different programs and beginning to narrow my options down. Starting the DI application early is really important because things start to get really hectic on top of having to keep up with school work!
