It’s coming to the end of my nutrition therapy rotation and I can’t believe how fast it went. This week I will be doing my staff relief. Not all interns have to do staff relief but I think it’s something everyone is doing towards the end of their clinical rotation already. Staff relief is basically taking over one of the RD’s area of the hospital and assessing the patients on your own. It sounds scary but you aren’t truly alone as the RDs are always nearby to answer questions. Towards the end of the rotation you’ll find that you can assess a lot more patients, asking less questions and you start to get faster in your assessments. I’m nowhere near to the amount of patients a regular RD sees in a day, and that is to be expected, but I am proud of what I have accomplished in this short time span. I remember my first patient took me half the morning but that is what I’m there for to take my time and learn!
But I am getting antsy to move on to the next rotation. I love the fact that my internship is a general one where I get to see a lot of different areas of this field. After the holidays I have school food service lined up. This rotation I am actually with a fellow intern, which will be nice. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of food service but I hear other interns say the same thing only to come away loving it after they have finished.
