Hot Topics: AP Says Hello Again

Hey Everyone!

I’m Amanda Pietraszewski and I’m excited to continue to be a part of the AAI community through a weekly hot topic blog. Last year, during the day I was a high school teacher (taught nutrition and math, I was very fortunate to find a job that filled both passions) and in the evenings I would walk over to NYU to continue working on my masters degree in clinical nutrition. Many of my hot topic posting last year were inspired by the the conversations I would have with my high school nutrition class, but this year, the ideas will be originating somewhere else. This coming academic year, I will finally (finally! I’ve taking the very long route) be completing my dietetic internship at the University of Medical and Dental of New Jersey. I’m sure blog posting inspiration will not too hard to find.

The other thing to know about me is that I am also very into the food studies, and tend to sneak in some postings about food and pop culture. For instance, Kellogg’s just opened a huge store in Times Square dedicated to Pop-Tarts... you can get different flavors... frostings... colors... I’d like to talk about it and how Times Square is becoming the place to create extravagant, overwhelming, spectacles for a very specific food item. Currently Times Square is the home to gigantic M&Ms store and the Hershey’s Candies Store. Perhaps, the trend started because of the huge Cup O’Noodles located right under the times square New Years Eve crystal ball... year after year the gigantic cup of noodles stared at America as we counted down... now it’s finally got some fare company. Yes, I could go on and on, and it’s starting to sound like an actual blog entry... so I’ll stop there.

Feel free to comment, suggest topic ideas, or ask questions (I could talk about urban nutrition education for awhile). Because although I enjoy blogging about Hot Topics, I’d rather be having a conversation about it. Thanks for Reading!
