Run, my fellow nutrition nerds, and get thee to a health food market near you and pick up a brand new product by the fabulous Regal Vegan, Ella Nemcova. You’ve heard of foie gras, I’m sure? That disgusting stuff made of chicken liver that, to me, nobody should be eating (and all that cholesterol and fat…ugh!)
Well, a new option is here, and it ROCKS! Enter Faux Gras (cute play on the name, huh?) According to Nemcova on her website, www.theregalvegan.com,
“Packed with all the flavor and smooth, spreadable texture of its traditional namesake, the goose and duck win out this year to“good-for-you” ingredients like lentils, walnuts and caramelized onions. Faux Gras is as perfect for breakfast on a slice of warm toast as it is for the appetizer table or in a lunchtime sandwich with cucumbers and avocados. It works with crackers or crudités and on its own is completely gluten-free.”
Um, hello? Doesn’t that sound like heaven? Lucky me got to sample this product, and I’m telling you, it IS heaven. It has just the right mixture of spices and a hit of sweetness, and the creamy texture is to die for. This spread is super healthy, so when you overindulge (and eat half the container in one sitting like I did…and trust me, you’ll do the same) there is no need to worry.
Faux gras is such a new product that it is only available in select stores, such as:
