AAI Q/A: Defining Dietetic Programs

When I first started my undergrad the terms coordinated program, accredited programs, and CADE coursework were thrown around a lot. As a freshman I was a little confused by it all. To help some people out (or to clarify for those who know all the definitions) here are the basic dietetic programs defined in simple terms:

·      DPD- Refers to an academic program designed to meet foundation knowledge for dietetic practice. Must be at a US accredited college. Completion of DPD program allows eligibility to apply for internship

·      DI- Dietetic internship is a postbacculaureate program that provides required supervised practice & eligibility to sit for the ADA exam

·      CP-Coordinated program includes both required foundation knowledge & supervised practice all in one program

·      DT-Dietetic technician programs

·      CADE-Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education

These are just the basic definitions and to learn more visit eatright.org.
