For some reason, it’s hard to find really good Indian food in Manhattan. Sure, there are plenty of decent places, but nothing to really write home about. Since moving to New York a couple years ago, I’ve been hearing that Jackson Heights is the go-to neighborhood for authentic Indian and Bengali food.
Last weekend, Chris and I finally got around to taking the (short!) trip out to the 74th Street/Roosevelt Ave stop on the E train (you can also take the F, G, R, V, or 7) to sample the offerings at Delhi Heights on 74th Street.
It was so hard to decide what to order—the menu was lengthy and full of both Indian and Chinese-Indian dishes for both meat lovers and vegetarians. It was hard to narrow it down, but we eventually went with chili paneer, daal tadka, raita, rice, and naan. At the end of the meal, we ordered masala tea, which is brewed right in the milk. We could also have opted for the $9.95 buffet, so perhaps we'll have to go back another time. My wallet could dig that.
Despite eating until we were a little more than satisfied, we still had quite a lot of leftovers to take home. But man, I was glad I’d gone to the gym that morning! It's not so much that the food there is "heavy" or the portions are oversized—it's just so good it's hard not to eat more than you need to!
