Weekend Plate: Shamrock Shakes

March is fantastic. Spring draws near, you get to wear lots of green, and the Shamrock Shake appears.

The Shamrock Shake is a McDonald’s creation: a hybrid of milkshake, mint, and an unusual flavor I personally think is nutmeg. There is a cult following of shake enthusiasts and entire websites dedicated to Shamrock Shake sightings. I had vague memories of childhood excursions to get March’s Shamrock Shake. From what I remember, they were mortifyingly delicious. That was ten years ago, and I literally haven’t eaten there for a solid five years. Last March I made it my goal to try to renew the acquaintance of said shake. Notice I said try.

I went to three McDonald’s all of which were SOLD OUT of the item. If anything, this probably only made the memory of how good it was even more desirable. Flash foreword. It’s March 2010 and I’m definitely getting my shake this year. So finally, after a ten-year hiatus of deliciousness, I was re-united with a Shamrock Shake.

Half of a small later I literally feel my arteries clogging and I am SO tired. Now I remember why I can’t eat fast food anymore. Morgan Spurlock wasn’t kidding. That stuff will kill you.

So long minty memory, we are through!
